33. Octopus Islands to Drew Harbour / Rebecca Spit

Given the large tide range and currents (max flood forecast 8.89 knots at Hole In The Wall!) we plan for departing in the afternoon slack, giving us the morning to kayak around the anchorage. It was calm and beautiful.

A nice tour of the anchorage

The east side of the anchorage looked like a Clam Garden - which we had never noticed before.

A Clam Garden?

Slack at Surge Narrows is 3:49 pm and we plan a leisurely 1 hr to get there. We hit Surge Narrows /  Beazley Passage at 3:20 with ~1.5 knots still pushing us through. After an uneventful run down Hoskyn Channel we elect to cut through the small gap into Moulds Bay. An interesting little diversion through to Heroit Bay / Drew Harbour.

Not being a fan of being in tight with all the other boats tucked behind Rebecca Spit, and particularly with the forecast of SE switching to NW during the night, we drop the anchor deep in Drew Harbour towards the private mooring buoys in 40' of water. Lots of room and lots of rode has us worry free. Compared to anchorages further north this seems easy. Time to hit the Heriot Bay Pub!
